A bit about Dr. Bigelow
Dr. Bigelow was born and raised Chicago, Illinois and attended Lake Forest College for her undergraduate degree. After working as a veterinary technician at a small animal general practice, she followed her passion for veterinary medicine and obtained her DVM from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Bigelow completed a one-year small animal rotating internship followed by a three-year residency in emergency and critical care at North Carolina State University. She became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2022. During her time at NCSU, she developed her love for a variety of ECC cases, including mechanical ventilation, point of care ultrasound, electrolyte disorders, and management of septic patients. Dr. Bigelow has also been active in many areas of research including spontaneous pneumothorax, urosepsis, and ultrasonographic assessment of intracranial hypertension in dogs.
Dr. Bigelow enjoys the rigorous and often unpredictable nature of emergency and critical care medicine. One of the best parts of her job is overseeing the intensive care unit and working bedside along some of the sickest patients, where recognizing second by second changes are essential. She also loves working collaboratively with all of the other specialists at Summit, as well as being a source of comfort and guidance for owners during stressful times.
In her free time, Dr. Bigelow enjoys exploring the PNW with her husband, Alex, and their two rambunctious dogs, Charlie and Wanda.
